Who is right on this one?

im a patriots fan and i went for green bay to beat the steelers but my friend says it would make more sense to root for the afc team then the nfc team,this not the pro bowl..i said besides kinda backwards why root for a team in your conference?? may not be rivals but its just as close,its like me going for the colts or ravens doesnt make sense..who do you think is right on this one?
